Operating Procedures For Winches

Jan 14, 2026

1. During installation, the machine base must be stable and firm, with reliable dead anchors installed, and a work shed shall be erected. The operator's position shall allow clear visibility of the signal person and the object being hauled or lifted.

2. Prior to operation, inspect the winch's ground fixation status, protective devices, electrical circuits, braking system and wire ropes. The winch shall only be put into use if all components pass the inspection.

3. Protective guards must be installed for belt drives and open gear drives. Open-type jaw pulleys are prohibited for use as guide pulleys.

4. For winches with power-driven forward and reverse rotation, the drum rotation direction must be consistent with the indication on the control switch.

5. The distance from the drum centerline to the first guide pulley shall be:

6. Not less than 15 times the drum width for grooved drums;

7. Not less than 20 times the drum width for ungrooved drums.When the wire rope is in the middle position of the drum, the pulley shall be perpendicular to the drum axis.

8. No obstacles shall be present within the stroke range of the winch brake lever.

9. The wire rope shall be neatly wound on the drum. If overlapping or cross-winding is found, stop the winch immediately to rearrange the rope. It is strictly forbidden to pull or step on the wire rope by hand or foot while the drum is rotating.

10. During operation, no person shall step over the operating wire rope. After lifting the object, the operator shall not leave the winch unattended.

11. During breaks, the object or lifting cage must be lowered to the ground.

12. In case of power outage during operation, cut off the power supply immediately and lower the lifted object to the ground.
